Louise & Eleanor

Words & Images by Megan Tierney

Why did you create Louise & Eleanor?

I started LOUISE & ELEANOR because I wanted to create company that makes beautiful, affordable, luxury products and at the same time, gives back and inspires others. I named the company after my late grandmothers who were both amazing women and very influential in my life. They taught me some invaluable lessons and through the company, I get to share some of their knowledge. Also, I wanted to create a community of women who are encouraging, inspiring and lifting each other up. When women support one another, amazing things happen.

Louise & Eleanor is described as a fashion brand with a purpose.  Tell us more about that.

One of LOUISE & ELEANOR core values is giving back. Through fashion we hope to create a cycle of women helping women. Our customers are directly giving back to women and they are making a positive difference in the lives of others when they purchase a LOUISE & ELEANOR bag. We donate a percent of every bag sold to one of the women's charities we partner with. We strive for LOUISE & ELEANOR to be a company that does good and just as others have helped us along the way, we hope to help others too.

You also say that Louise & Eleanor is for extraordinary women.  What does extraordinary mean to you?

I think most everybody is extraordinary in their own way. We all have our own characteristics, style, fears, imperfections, dreams and goals. I think differences make people beautiful, individual and unique. Extraordinary to me means giving 100% of yourself in all you do with the time you're given.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when you founded Louise & Eleanor, and how did you overcome it?

The LOUSE & ELEANOR journey hasn't been easy. Starting the company has been the hardest and most humbling adventure I've ever embarked upon. I funded the company myself and have had many sleepless, worrisome nights. There have been set backs and challenges in getting to where we are and we still have a very long way to go. At the same time, I love the company, our products, customers and people we get to work with so much that it makes getting though the tough times a bit easier. We're always going to have set backs, that's inevitable, but our challenges have changed since we first started and in a way, it's exciting to see how we're going to get over the next hurdle. We're a company about inspiring and encouraging others and we're living proof that you can turn dreams into reality. We're not saying it's easy but if you keep getting up every time you fall down, eventually that will lead somewhere.

Where do you find inspiration when creating new handbags?

Everywhere. Creating bags is one of my favorite aspects of the business. I get to travel a lot with LOUISE & ELEANOR and I'm constantly inspired by the places I get to visit and people I meet along the way. I love exploring and learn so much from my travels which I feel lucky to share though the company.

What are your hopes for Louise & Eleanor for the future?

I have many hopes and dreams for LOUISE & ELEANOR. I've very proud of our team, how far we've come and I'm excited about our vision for the future. My hope is that LOUISE & ELEANOR makes a difference. I hope we continue to bring happiness to our customers though our mission and products, happiness to others by giving back and happiness back to our company by being a part of something we believe in and love so much. I hope the community we're building keeps growing, encouraging, inspiring and rooting each other on. "Each of of us can make a difference. Together we make change." I hope though LOUISE & ELEANOR we create positive changes and leave the world a little better than we found it.
