5 Affirmations You Need to Hear Today

Words by Madisen Quick

Editor's Note: As part of an ongoing series where a member of the Holl & Lane team reflects on the theme of the latest issue, this post is in response to the Holl & Lane Volume II, 2017 Collection issue themed around "The Mind".

The heart of the work we do at Holl & Lane is our belief in the transformative power of words. Hearing someone's story and sharing your own create deep connections and help heal loneliness in our lives. And sometimes it's actually the words we speak to ourselves that are the most transformational. So whether you've been struggling with negative self-talk or you're looking for a daily pick-me-up, we rounded up 5 affirmations to plant within your mind today.

You can also download our free printable with these 5 affirmations here! Stick them to your fridge, mirror, nightstand, or more so these positive words sink in and become a daily part of your self-care routine.

1. My body deserves to be loved and cared for. I will honor it for the strength it gives me, even on days when it doesn't feel like my ally.

As women especially, the relationships we have to our bodies are always in flux. So write a love letter to the parts of your body you haven't loved on enough, go for an evening walk, or soothe your toes in a sudsy soak. Take time to remember the never-ending work your body does to care for you and care for it in return.

2. I will be fully present where I am with the people around me and the moments I have with them.

Instagram feed swipes and email check-ups don't have a thing on the real, genuine moments that are happening with the people right in front of us. Use today to create connections and memories with those around you. Honor these moments with your full attention and a full heart.

3. I forgive myself for the mistakes I have made and I will forgive those who have hurt me as well.

Release yourself today from the should's, the guilt, and the shame. Begin to release others as well, not because they always deserve to be forgiven, but because your mind deserves the peace of forgiveness.

4. I will cultivate a heart that celebrates the successes of others without competition or comparison.

There is strength in coming alongside others to share authentically in the joy of their victories. And when comparison comes knocking, remind yourself that we are always made better by the success of one another.

5. No matter the circumstances, the only thing I will assume is that everyone is doing the very best that they can and that so am I.

When expectations far exceed reality, as they so often do, fill the gap between with kindness, gentleness, and grace. Whether it's a frustrating family member, a difficult boss, or the cashier determined to spread a bad mood, meet people where they're at today and choose to see their struggle.
